good evening parents and welcome to open house I'll be speaking a little bit about my background the engineering and Architectural design field review articulation with our local colleges our architecture engineering club here at Sierra Vista High School some current projects and my contact information for those of you that don't know me I'm Mr Estrada I graduated with a bachelor's of architecture from Woodbury University at 30 years experience in the architecture and engineering field designing both commercial and residential projects at 20 years of experience teaching here at Sierra Vista High School in the architecture and engineering program and I'm Project Lead the Way sir. Project Lead the Way is a nonprofit organization that provides schools with curriculum in the engineering fields the architecture and engineering program here at Sierra Vista High School provides many great opportunities for your child are Pathways in architecture and engineering both have articulation agreements with Zach and Rio Hondo students receive college credit by taking this class in high school all we need to do is apply to the college and submit a portfolio with their work at the end who year we also provide Shadow programs some of our alumni who are in the architecture and engineering fields will come and volunteer their time and Shadow our students we also have an architecture engineering club that help support all of these programs we have many members in our architecture engineering club in are always welcoming new members to our club if your son or daughter want to join the club we just need to meet with me there's a lot of great opportunities for them to further their education through guest speakers Virtual Field Trips the alumni Shadow program I just spoke about and some design competitions now I'm going to show you what students have been working on this year here's some sketching examples we're students I've been learning about Jade and Shadow and proportion and overall composition here are some examples of 3D models that students produced in CAD students are given two dimensional shape drawings where they need to understand how to read dimensions section lines and use that information to create these models play some in isometric view top view front view and right side view this is an example of how students use their creativity and their skills to develop a three-dimensional shape students used their sketching skills to plan out their design then this design is created in CAD Alexander and converted and the outcome is a three dimensional shape printed here in class students have had the opportunity to work individually and in teams to solve design problems here you can see it when it's cutting pasting glue in measuring their models in order to come up with a design solution the advanced classes like civil engineering and architecture an architectural design three have been learning about type five Construction either some examples of a model they've been building were they burned how different components are connected what is a stud what is a beam what is a header what is a joist what is a roof rafter always is his vocabulary that students are learning in this class students in the principles of engineering class have been using Vex kids design solar power vehicles here you can see students assembling the vehicle and testing the solar powered mechanism one of the big components of both architecture engineering is oral presentation students have had the opportunity to present their ideas to their fellow classmates this allows for a dialogue and further investigation into design concept this is an example of a can challenge the students were faced with the students were to design a bicycle station that provided some type of shelter BP station air pump trash can in vending machine your for project from four different students that have a variety of design ideas our architecture design to class is currently working on the Sierra Vista library card project a few years ago our library was remodeled and we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to provide some conceptual designs that will enhance the quad directly in front of it this is one example of a student project is currently being worked on by Yvonne Vee in the architecture to class in this light you can see the student have recorded the objective and the design concept for her design proposal The Next Step Aside analysis we begin with a series of maps showing the location of Baldwin Park in relation to Los Angeles the city of Baldwin Park the location of Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park andesite additional site analysis has included the class schedule circulation Maps SunPass yearly temperature graph Anthem type photograph once inside analysis was completed students took those measurements to create a 3D modeling cat 3D model will be used for students to plug in their own design in these images you can see the final product now the students can take this CAD model and use it to develop their conceptual designs I leave you with these images of our current project and a typical day in our classroom thank you so much for being here if you'd like to contact me my office hours are from 8:10 a.m. to 9:09 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:10 2:10 a.m. on Wednesdays you can also reach me at my email Jay Estrada 439 at bpusd.net or I can also be reached at school telephone number 626-960-7741 extension 08728 once again thank you so much for being here and have a good day
