Stunt Cheer Teams Make BPUSD History

Both schools wrapped their seasons with an impressive score of seven wins and one loss, tying as league champions against La Puente High School on April 19. This groundbreaking accomplishment marks a significant milestone for both schools' athletic programs and highlights the growing popularity and competitiveness of stunt cheerleading in the region.

 

The Baldwin Park High School stunt team began training in early winter, practicing nearly every day after school. With the sport combining building stunts, standing, running, and tumbling, athletes adopted a new strategy to master sharp routines. The team worked together to achieve new skills and techniques that would help them stand out. This year’s "Team 3" remained determined throughout their season, with their biggest goal set for the Valley West League. “Obstacles, hard times, and much more came their way, but they did not let it stop them. They were unbreakable,” Baldwin Park High girls' stunt team coach Starr Sanchez said.

 

At Sierra Vista High, the 26-member team not only practiced and played stunt games but also began practicing in the summer. They prepared for the sideline season, attended rallies, assemblies, and community events. Most athletes were also on the competition team, doing twice the amount of practices and fundraising events. Achieving Valley West League champions is an accomplishment that did not come easily. “The push and drive that this team has was unmatched, and we are so extremely proud of the outcome,” Sierra Vista High cheer coach Rozanna Soria said.

 

This victory is a testament to their perseverance, skill, and teamwork. “We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to many more successes,” said BPUSD Superintendent Dr. Froilan Mendoza.
