Board of Education Student Members Gustavo Trujillo Jr., Lindsey Castro, and Valeria Hernandez were recognized for their service and dedication to the community for the 2023-24 school year. As student board members, they held a vital role in integrating student perspectives in educational decisions. During this week’s Board Meeting Spotlight, Director of Student Achievement Margie Clark highlighted each student's contributions to their school and wider community.
Gustavo Trujillo, Jr. is a graduating senior at Baldwin Park High School. His school engagement includes being President of the Humanitarian Club and Vice-President of PALs. Trujillo’s outstanding educational achievements earned him The Gates Scholarship, Ramona Burnham Scholarship, and the Cruz Baca Scholarship. He has received various college acceptances with full-ride scholarships including The University of Southern California (USC) and Notre Dame. Trujillo will be attending USC for Business Administration with a focus on AI and Political Science. He hopes to start a career in business and economics while remaining politically active, then step into public service.
Lindsey Castro is a recent graduate of North Park Continuation High School. Her engagement highlights include her dedication to community service. Castro is proudly serving on the Baldwin Park Public Service and Recreational Committee. She enjoys volunteering in the community in every way possible. She plans to attend UEI College for a career as a Dental Assistant. After finishing college, she hopes to attend a trade school in Japan for two years to learn the language and culture.
Valeria Hernandez is a graduating senior at Sierra Vista High School. Her school engagement highlights include being a Varsity Girls’ Tennis athlete for two years, participating in the Associated Student Body (ASB), and being a Dual Language student for 13 years; starting in elementary school. Hernandez has received multiple college acceptances including: The University of California Irvine, University of California Santa Cruz, California State University Fullerton, and California State University San Marcos. Hernandez will be attending the University of California Irvine and majoring in Business Administration. She is looking forward to the “dorming” experience during her first year of college.
“We are extremely grateful for their service, and delighted to see all the great achievements still to come in their bright futures,” Margie Clark said.
In recognition of their service, each student received a special plaque, symbolizing the gratitude of the Board and School District.
